Exam Overview
The BPSC 70th CCE is conducted to recruit candidates for various Group A positions such as District Coordinator, Superintendent Prohibition, District Planning Officer, and Financial Administrative Officer. The selection process involves three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview.
Exam Pattern
Preliminary Examination
- Type: Objective (MCQs)
- Duration: 2 hours
- Total Marks: 150
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deduction for each incorrect answer
The Prelims exam consists of a single General Studies paper with 150 questions.
Main Examination
- Type: Subjective (Written)
- Duration: 3 hours for each paper
- Total Marks: 1100 (900 marks are considered for merit as Hindi and Optional papers are qualifying)
Papers:
- General Hindi (Qualifying) - 100 marks
- General Studies Paper I - 300 marks
- General Studies Paper II - 300 marks
- Essay - 300 marks
- Optional Subject (Qualifying) - 100 marks
Candidates can choose one optional subject from a list of 34 subjects.
Interview
- Total Marks: 120
- The interview assesses the candidate's general knowledge, personal traits, and suitability for the post.

Preliminary Examination
The Prelims syllabus includes:
- General Studies:
- History of India and Bihar: Important features, significant events, and movements.
- Geography: Physical geography of India and Bihar, major rivers, and climatic conditions.
- Indian Polity: Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, and community development.
- Economy: Economic policies, development, and major changes in Bihar post-independence.
- General Science: Current events of national and international importance.
- National Movement: Bihar’s role in the Indian National Movement.
Main Examination
The Mains syllabus is more extensive and includes:
- General Hindi: Grammar, essay writing, sentence correction, and comprehension.
- General Studies Paper I:
- Indian Culture: Features of Indian culture, cultural history, and the role of women.
- Modern History of India: Significant events from the 18th century onwards.
- Indian Economy: Planning, economic development, and budgeting.
- Polity and Governance: Constitution, political system, and public administration.
- General Studies Paper II:
- India and the World: Foreign policy, international relations, and current events.
- Statistical Analysis: Basic concepts of statistics and their application in governance.
- Essay: Topics covering multiple aspects of society, politics, economy, and current affairs.
- Optional Subject: Candidates choose one subject from a list including Literature, Sciences, and Humanities.
